Hunter Library Book Sale: Tuesday, October 20

The book sale will be from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on Tuesday, October 20 in the main entrance of Hunter Library. The sale will include books, CDs, DVDs, maps and other media and will cover a wide variety of subjects. Hardcover books will sell for $1; softcovers for 25¢. CDs, DVDs, VHS and cassettes will sell for $1. Maps will be 50¢. Library staff will be happy to negotiate prices for boxes of books. Please plan to bring cash; the library is not able to accept credit cards or CatCards. All proceeds will benefit the library. 

New Resource: Mango Languages

Hunter Library has joined the Mango family!

We are now subscribed to Mango Languages, an online language-learning resource that will enrich and supplement your linguistic and cultural experience here on campus.


Our subscription includes 8 languages:

• Spanish
• French
• German
• Russian
• Japanese 
• Mandarin Chinese 
• English for Arabic Speakers 
• Cherokee

Mango Languages enriches lives with language and culture through self-guided courses that go beyond grammar and vocabulary, introducing language learners to a whole new world.

Click here to access Mango Languages. It is also listed under the articles and databases tab in the A-Z list. Just create a profile, log in, and get started! Once you create a profile, download the Mango Languages app for your phone or tablet and learn a new language on the go. If you need help with the program please visit our Mango guide.

Celebrate Your Freedom to Read!

It's Banned Book Week! 

Here are a few ways to celebrate your freedom to read:

• Stop by Hunter Library's annual exhibit located in front of the circulation desk and browse books that are frequently challenged. Then check one out--because you can! 
• Follow us on Instagram! Snap a selfie with your favorite banned or challenged book and tag us @hunterlibrary or hashtag us: #hltour.
• Learn more about banned and challenged books. The info-graphic below highlights some of last year's most challenged books. Some titles may surprise you.

New Resource: Teachingbooks.net

Teachingbooks.net
is now available to all students, faculty, and staff.  While Teachingbooks.net is primarily intended to support literacy in K-12 classrooms and will be especially useful for teacher education students and faculty, it will also be appreciated by anyone who reads children’s and young adult literature.

Features include:

• Guides and teaching resources for thousands of titles, including information about reading levels and genere
• Streaming video of author interviews filmed in the authors’ homes and studios
• Articles about teaching literacy
• Common Core literacy connections
• Reader’s Theater scripts
• Author name pronunciations
• Links to author websites

Off-campus users will log in with their regular username (before the @catamount or @wcu) and password.
